Course Description

Te Reo Māori Level 2

Students who take Te Reo Māori at Level 2 will learn and explore:

  • the impact of events before 1970 on the vitality of the Te Reo Maaori and draw some understanding about their collective responsibility for the vitality and sustainability of the language. 
  • communicative ideas using Māori principles in the language. 
  • understanding of the connections between the language and cultural practices to relevant contexts. some of the Māori principles embedded in the language 

Student will also learn about:

  • relate features of oral language fluency and fluidity to relevant contexts. 
  • a variety of language features to communicate.
  • correct language patterns to the relevant contexts. 
  • how to select the correct use of words and structures for context.  

These key ideas will be explored in conjunction with units of learning through out the year. Assessment dates will be entered in at the beginning of the school year.

Recommended Prior Learning

Gain 12 credits at Level 1 Te Reo Māori, one of which must be a written standard. 

Otherwise entry to the course at the TIC’s discretion (apply for exemption)
