Recommended Prior LearningStudents will have completed Years 9 and 10 English. The course is compulsory for all Year 11 Students.
English Level 1
This course covers a variety of English skills and texts. It creates a pathway for those students who wish to take English on to Levels 2 and 3.
Level 1 English will refine students’ reading, writing, listening, speaking and presenting skills. English texts will include both literary and non-literary texts, and student will develop their skills of analysis using a variety of text types.
As part of the course, students will be entered for one external standard and two internal standards which are all compulsory.
The internally assessed standards are:
1.1: Demonstrate understanding of how context shapes verbal language use
1.2: Produce a verbal and visual personal response to texts.
The externally assessed standard is:
1.4: Demonstrate understanding of significant aspects of texts - 5 credits
Term 1
Research - students' area of interest.
Term 2
Reading - Unfamiliar texts, short texts, novel and film.
Term 3
Writing - Essay, reports and other formal writing forms.

Students will work to the set Assessment Schedule.
