Course Description

English Level 1
This course focuses on building and strengthening language in context, responding and engaging with texts. It creates a pathway for those students who wish to take English on to Levels 2 and 3.
Level 1 English will refine students’ reading, writing, listening, speaking and presenting skills. It will include both literary and non-literary texts, and students will develop their skills of analysis using a variety of text types.
As part of the course, students will be entered for one external standard and two internal standards which are all compulsory.
The internally assessed standards are:
1.1: Demonstrate understanding of how context shapes verbal language use. - 5 credits
1.2: Demonstrate understanding of specific aspects of studied text. - 5 credits
The externally assessed standard is:
1.4: Demonstrate understanding of significant aspects of unfamiliar texts - 5 credits
Recommended Prior Learning
Students will have completed Years 9 and 10 English. The course is compulsory for all Year 11 Students.
