Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Slaney.

Recommended Prior Learning

Successful completion of at least 6 of the Achievement Standard credits at Level 2 Mechanical Engineering or by approval of the HOD.

Mechanical Engineering Level 3

A workshop course with the emphasis on practical skills leading to greater knowledge and understanding of Mechanical Engineering systems and implementations. Credits are obtained by a combination of theory and practical based assessment provided through Competenz, as well as NCEA achievement standards. The achievement standards add up to create an university entrance bucket.

Not all standards will be assessed for every student. A selection will be chosen to suit chosen projects. Likely credits will be around 14-20 in total for the year.

Course Overview

Term 1
Either, start making a practical project for a machining and fabrication standard, or explore problems that could be solved by the creation of something new.

Term 2
Continuation of the machinery and fabrication as well as looking into the properties of engineering materials, or designing the solution of the problem, and starting the manufacturing of it.

Term 3
Completion of both projects.
