Geography Level 1
The study of humans interacting with their environments including the physical environment and the built environment.
Concept 1: Sustainability: a study of sustainable use of the Bay of Islands environment through tourism and Freedom Camping’s effect on our area.
Concept 2: Playing on the Coromandel – where visitors originate and what they do when they come and visit.
Concept 3: The global coffee trade: a study of the origins and destinations of coffee globally.
Concept 4: Extreme Natural Events: a study of the Christchurch earthquakes and the effects these quakes have on the natural and cultural environment, using Google Earth to show possible effects on Wellington from earthquakes.
Recommended Prior Learning
A reasonable level of literacy is required.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
A 4 day trip to explore the Bay of Islands- approx $200
This trip is combined with History and Te Reo Māori.
Pathway
This course could also lead into Level 2 - Tourism through Distance
Credit Information
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
