Course Description

Fabric and Design Level 3

Technology: If you have a passion for Fabric and Design, this course is for you! Fabric and Design, is rich in ‘hands on’ practical work that is planned and supported by theory and design work. This course has a focus on construction of garments using complex procedures, drafting a pattern from a block, development and application of applied design. eg embroidery.  Items created in this course are largely initiated through student design ideas and students work at their own pace depending on their chosen assignments. Supporting portfolio work is required.

This course can be co-constructed to meet the needs of individual learners; therefore the number of credits available may vary between individuals. 

Optional external standard 91613 Demonstrate an understanding of material development can be offered and allow an endorsement from this class.


Course Overview

Term 1
Introduction
A.S. 91621 v3 Construction and Mechanical Technologies 3.21 - Implement complex procedures using textile materials to make a specified product.
This involves creating a garment which uses complex procedures. Eg. lined coat, ballgown, corset with boning, embroidery.

Term 2
Complete project from term 1.
Complete associated portfolio work

Recommended Prior Learning


Level 1 and Level 2 Technology Fabric and Design preferred but not compulsory. Students who are new to the subject, but are creative and interested, will be considered on an individual basis. 

Individual needs may be accommodated as required.

Course fee $65 for take home projects

Pathway

This course could lead you to a career in Fashion and Design, Costuming, Upholstery and Motor Trimming, associated industries such as pattern making and prototyping for fashion designers. There are many opportunities both here and overseas.
This course follows on to Poly technic study and Bachelor of Fashion and Design degrees. The course is comprised of Achievement standards.
