Course Description

L3 Spanish

This course develops the ability to debate issues orally and analyse extended texts in Spanish. It explores current events and global issues with a Spanish focus, preparing students to make the most of the growing global demand for second language skills and intercultural capabilities in both business and policy spheres.

A range of topical readings and listenings on themes ranging from Hispanic literature to sustainability forms the basis of coursework.  Weekly tasks are based on these texts and videos and you need to come to class having engaged with them so you can contribute and learn.

Grammar covered in class as per NZ curriculum levels 7/8 : imperative review, the subjunctive mode, passive voice and relative pronouns.

Recommended Prior Learning

10 credits @ Level 2 Spanish. Course resources are collated on Google sites, so the ability to engage with and use online content effectively is essential.

Assessment Information

Level 3 Spanish will be assessed through the 5 achievement standards listed below - (2 externals with a total of 10 credits and 3 internals worth 14 credits.) Students have a choice of all assessments in consultation with their teacher. All internal assessments are due Week 9, Term 3.
