Course Description

Mechanical Engineering Level 1

A workshop course with the emphasis on practical skills leading to greater knowledge and understanding of Mechanical Engineering systems and implementations. Credits are obtained by a combination of theory and practical based assessment provided through Competenz, as well as NCEA achievement standards. Successful projects in the past have included a gravity powered vehicle or drift trike, which when completed, students have a choice to make a project of their choice.


Course Overview

Term 1
Exploring the brief for making a vehicle and possible solutions, and learning essential skills for construction.

Term 2
Deepening understanding of tool use in the workshop and project construction.

Term 3
Project completion and gathering feedback.

Term 4
Bringing it all together.

Recommended Prior Learning


Successful completion of a year 10 Technology course or by approval of the HOD. 

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

$100 for take home projects
