Horticulture Level 1

In this course, which has a strong practical component, we cover the appropriate tools, techniques and materials used in the planting and maintenance of plants grown in an outside area and in a greenhouse. The design of landscapes is also covered.

Course Overview

Term 1
Identification of equipment, plants and materials used in the propagating of plants
Setting up and maintenance of plants grown from seed in outdoor plots
Preparation and practice of the scientific investigation

Term 2
Continued maintenance, growing and completion of the assessment of different crops in the outdoor plots
Carrying out of the practical investigation and the writeup
Setting up of the growing plants from seed in containers assessment

Term 3
Continuation of the growing plants from seed assessment and completion of the assessment
preparation for the landscaping design assessment

Term 4
Completion of the landscaping design assessment and clearing up of the Horticulture area

Recommended Prior Learning

Active participation in Year 10 core Science, especially in relation to experimental design and use of basic scientific lab equipment.
